It is a lifelong relationship between Michael Phelps and coach Bob Bowman. The 23- time Olympic gold medalist met his coach for the first time in 1993. Within four years, Bowman had recognized the swimming prodigy’s prowess. Noticing how effortlessly Phelps could swim at a young age, Bowman once compared him to the magnificent Preakness horses.

Bowman compared his body to Preakness horses, one of the states’ most efficient horses. Moreover, Phelps was just a sophomore at Towson High School when he participated in the 2000 Olympics. His guts to participate in an Olympic event at such a young age made him the youngest U.S. male swimmer to do so in 86 years. Although he did not win anything that year, it was just the beginning of his glory.
