About 71% of our ‘Blue Planet’ Earth is made up of water. As humans, swimming in these waters is one of our favorite activities. And while this water provides us with life, it can easily take it away as well. Every year in the United States, there are nearly 4000 fatal drownings and 8000 non-fatal drownings. This leads to a shocking 11 fatal and 22 non-fatal drownings per day. While the waves near the shores can be calm, the deep belly of the lakes and oceans roil with unseen currents that can sweep away the best of swimming aficionados.
A similar incident took place with a 13-year-old girl hailing from Minnesota. While on a fun vacation with her friends, she went swimming in the lake. However, the teenager’s idea of fun suddenly turned into a nightmare when she was sucked in by the waves and could not come up for air. Ultimately, the world lost a young soul to the horrors of drowning yet again.

The incident took place at Lake Julia, a beautiful water body located in Beltrami County, Minnesota. The lake is approximately 511 square acres in size with 6 miles of shoreline. The deepest point of the lake is 43 feet, and the lake is known for boating and fishing. The teenager, with her friends, was out on the lake on a pontoon boat. After a while, she decided to go swimming in the waters of Lake Julia, and that is when everything started to go downhill.
While taking a dip in the water, she removed her floatation divide, thus binding herself to the horrendous fate she met. After removing her floatation device, she started climbing down the ladder of the boat. As she went underwater, she never resurfaced again. According to a report by Bring Me The News, the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office revealed that she went underwater around 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. The girl had been visiting Lake Julia from the Fargo or Moorhead area when she went missing while swimming. She drowned, and her dead body was recovered later. A dive team had to recover the body of the girl, which they found around 8:00 p.m.

The body was discovered in about 23 feet of water. When she went underwater while swimming, her friends tried to locate her, but the attempts were in vain. Due to not being able to locate their friend, they made a 911 call to alert the authorities. The identity of the victim has not been ascertained yet. The medical examiner has yet to conduct an autopsy, but the cause of death seems to be an apparent drowning. The United States has been plagued by several such incidents recently.
