Phelps was just seven years old when he started his journey at the pool. After rising on his professional ladder quickly, the swimming GOAT was swift to strike a sponsorship deal with a leading brand. However, soon after signing the deal, the otherwise active legend felt exhausted.
Phelps recalls the memory of his first sponsorship deal?
Walking down the memory lane in his book Michael Phelps in his memoir “Beneath the Surface: My Story” talked about how he got his first major sponsorship deal. Narrating the incident, Phelps informs the readers that during the said time, he had just started his junior year at Townson High.
He revealed that with the help of Frank Morgan, the family attorney and his coach Bob Bowman’s partner in the horse business, he signed a sponsorship deal, the first of his professional career. He signed a contract with the famous swimwear brand “Speedo” in 2005.
He also talked about his experience of his first photoshoot for the brand. One month after signing the deal, he went to Phoenix with his mother for a photoshoot. Expressing himself, he quoted his mother, “There’s a lot of work in this.” Though he is always active, he felt exhausted after his first photo shoot experience!
