Katie Ledecky, the most decorated American woman in Olympic history, has dominated the sport for more than a decade now. In Paris, Katie destroyed her rivals, snagging gold one after another. She etched her name in history with her ninth Olympic gold medal, which equaled the record of Russian gymnast Larisa Latynina.

The 27-year-old swimming legend kicked off her Paris campaign with a breathtaking victory in the 800m freestyle. Putting behind none other than Ariarne Titmus, ‘the terminator,’ she asserted her dominance in the 800m for the fourth consecutive time. It made her the seventh Olympian to win four consecutive gold medals in the same event—and the second swimmer after Phelps. Elated over her victory, she said, “Four times is the one that means the most to me.”

Continuing her brilliant run, Ledecky went on to snag another gold in the 1500m freestyle. She clocked a blistering 15:30.02. runtime, shattering her own Olympic record. Displaying her swimming prowess further, she culminated her Olympic run with a silver medal in the women’s 4 x 200m freestyle relay and a bronze medal in the women’s 400m freestyle. Her extraordinary performance at the Paris Olympics extended her medal total to a total of 14. It made her the fifth most decorated athlete in Olympic history, after Michael Phelps, Larisa Latynina, Marit Bjørgen, and Nikolai Andrianov.

So what’s next for the swimming legend? After four Olympics and 21 world championship titles later, one might think she has already reached the pinnacle of her career. So, the journey that began with a gold in the 2012 London Olympic Games is soon to draw the curtain to its unprecedented run. Well, no, Katie Ledecky doesn’t seem to bow down anytime soon. She still feels the fire burning inside her, pushing to break through more records and claim more titles.

Appearing on the CNBC Television YouTube channel on 6th September, she opened up about her plans that will surely extend to the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. When the host asked if LA would be her finale, Ledecky playfully replied she would love to go beyond it if possible. “I don’t know. I don’t know if I can call that my finale yet. I would love to make it to LA and compete there. But, you know, you ask me in four years, and who knows what I’ll say? I might say I want to go another year or two. I don’t see myself going to 2032. But 2028 is definitely going to be a goal, and when I get back into training sometime these next few months, I’ll start setting the course, setting the plan for how I’m going to get there,” she said.

It’s apparent Katie Ledecky isn’t stopping anytime soon. She has certainly set her eyes on the LA Olympics and might go beyond if her body permits. So what’s she doing now?

Now, to cool off and give her body a much-needed rest, Katie Ledecky has taken an indefinite break from her intense training regime that continues for seven days a week. “I have no idea how long it’s gonna be,” she said. “I’m sure I’ll find my way back to the pool pretty soon,” she said regarding when she will be returning to the train again.
