This year’s Labor Day weekend astounded the surfing community and the New Jersey locals alike. Amidst the Labor Day festivities, four victims have been declared dead so far from recent drownings around the New Jersey shore. This number could have been significantly higher, as a number of swimmers were saved by authorities.

One victim identified as 22-year-old Edwin Antonio Made Sanchez was reportedly hit by a rough wave at Beach Haven while swimming. Lifeguards and beachgoers tried their best to rescue the Dominican Republic national but to no avail.

Another drowning incident was reported in Belmar, where a 42-year-old male was announced dead at the hospital. Seaside Beach authorities also reported that a 31-year-old male swimmer was missing and the search for him has since been ended by authorities. The most recent drowning has been reported in Cape May County around Taylor Avenue Beach in New Jersey.

Fourth swimming mishap rocks New Jersey

On Monday, emergency responders sprung into action when a distress call claimed that 2 swimmers were in difficulty. By the time official help arrived, eyewitnesses stated that one swimmer had been recovered from the water while the other still remained missing. Soon after, lifeguards and firefighters formed a chain and began searching the area. Other agencies were also called for their help and soon after, the missing victim was also recovered from the water around 12:30 p.m.

After CPR was given to revive the victim, he was sent to a local hospital. Eventually, the state police officially claimed on Wednesday that the 43- year-old Vineland man had died. The other person who had been rescued earlier was the deceased victim’s teenage daughter.

Most of the Labor Day weekend’s drownings were caused due to strong rip currents across the New Jersey state. Apart from these four drowning victims, a host of swimmers were successfully rescued by authorities, otherwise, the victims’ number would have been significantly higher.

Authorities rescue a bunch of swimmers from drowning

While a 42-year-old man drowned in Belmar, Authorities were able to rescue five swimmers from drowning. Similarly, five swimmers were successfully helped and rescued by the authorities while a 31-year-old male swimmer reportedly drowned.

However, multiple authorities, including the United States Coastal Guard, continued to search for the 31-year-old, but without any success. In a heroic tale, Ex-Marine Stephen Houser saved swimmer Gabe McCabe from a potential drowning accident, while he was recording a YouTube video.

According to an ABC report, the victim McCabe said, “I’ve never experienced anything like this. It just sucked, zapped the energy right out of you.”
