Now, the swimming ace is on a mission to get his hands on this beautiful gem, which will be on offer on the podium of the Paris Olympics. But, the ticket to Paris for the swimmer came at a great cost. Nevertheless, he was able to purchase it in exchange for unwavering commitment to his craft. 

Thomas Ceccon did not have the pleasure of enjoying his winter break. Instead, the 22-year-old swimming prodigy had to get back into the pool to train for the Winter Swimming Championships. His hardships bore fruits in Riccione and unexpectedly became the script for an unforeseen chapter in the John Wick series. Here’s what happened!

Thomas Ceccon’s triumph expands the John Wick saga

Thomas Ceccon currently ranks as the world’s second-best swimmer, courtesy of his resplendent victory at the Swimming World Cup. Nonetheless, his shot at the Olympic berth at the Winter Swimming Championships was still mired in uncertainty. According to the Italian Olympic Selection Criteria, he needed to hit a QT in the A-final of the championship. Therefore, when the gun went off, Thomas Ceccon dived into the pool and produced a stunning performance. He touched the wall at 52.82 for the decisive victory. This performance has helped him snag the role of John Wick in the fans’ analysis. They celebrated his 100m backstroke gold with a beautiful poster where they replaced Keanu Reeves with Thomas Ceccon. The swimmer shared the poster on his Instagram story that said, “THOMAS CECCON JOHN WICK PARIGI 2024”. 

The protagonist, played by Hollywood legend Keanu Reeves in the John Wick franchise, is an enforcer for the mafia. The Vicenza native also demonstrated similar attributes in his swimming performance. However, he wasn’t the only one getting ready to take the victory pose in Paris.

Another qualifier primed for Olympic glory

Besides Thomas Ceccon, another Italian swimmer overcame the uncertain vicissitudes in her journey to the Winter Swimming Championships podium. Benedetta Pilato added herself to her country’s squad with a head-turning performance at Riccione. The 18-year-old swimmer nabbed the 100m breaststroke gold with a time of 1:05.80. This time made her eligible for the Olympics, where the cut-off was 1:06.0.

Pilato defeated national record holder Arianna Castiglioni, who now needs to triumph at the Doha World Championships to qualify for Paris. With both Thomas Ceccon and Benedetta Pilato, the Italian squad is slowly taking form. Will the former be able to maintain his momentum and prove the fans right?
