After winning 21 World Championship titles and 7 Olympic gold, Katie Ledecky is still hungry for more. Her immense success in swimming earned her the highest civilian honor of the country, the ‘Presidential Medal of Freedom.’ While all this would be enough to satiate a regular athlete, Katie Ledecky is built differently. En route to yet another Olympic in Paris, Ledecky is trying to take inspiration from all her achievements. In turn, making her reign of dominance extend in Paris. 

Earlier in May, while speaking with NPR, Ledecky sounded pretty confident about going to Paris. Ledecky also mentioned how overwhelmed she was to get the opportunity of a fourth Olympic appearance. Carrying the talks along the same lines, another recent interview had Ledecky comment about her 800m chances. 

A new record for Katie Ledecky on the horizon?

Katie Ledecky, in her latest book, ‘Just Add Water’, ventured into several avenues of her life. Chief among them, naturally, was her Paris Olympics possibilities. On being asked about whether she can set a new 800m record in the upcoming games, Ledecky sounded positive. She said, “I don’t know, I’m always trying to be my best. I have set the bar really high for myself. ” Indeed, Ledecky’s previous antics do back her statement of setting the bar high. Ledecky recently sat down with NBC’s Stephanie Gosk on TODAY to divulge details about the same.

Ledecky currently seems to be a notch above the rest. She is the defending world record holder in the 1500m & the 800m freestyle. And surely, Ledecky has been quite sublime throughout the build-up to Paris. She had an exceptional 2023 that included a record sixth women’s 800m freestyle world championship. Competing at the Worlds, Ledecky surpassed Michael Phelps’ record of 15 individual world championship gold by winning her 16th.

The women’s swimming icon also recorded the third fastest time as he won the 1500m freestyle at the Swim Worlds. Coming to 2024, Ledecky’s Midas touch did not seem to change. She clocked 15:38.81s to win the 1500m freestyle at the Pro Swim Series Meet at Knoxville. While Ledecky is bracing up for a successful Paris outing, curious fans have been questioning whether this would be her last. Well, Katie Ledecky herself has the answer. 

Katie Ledecky talks 2028 Olympics

Speaking to NPR in an interview, Katie Ledecky was asked about her future plans. While she did advocate taking things as they came, Ledecky’s response would surely broaden the smiles of her fans. She said,I take things year by year, but right now, I definitely could see myself competing in 2028, with it being a home Olympics. It’s something that’s very unique. It’s something that not every Olympic athlete gets. And so I definitely know I’m not retiring after this summer and 2028 is very appealing.”

Continuing her statement, Katie Ledecky opined that, as of now, her focus was Paris. And with that, the hopes of millions of swimming enthusiasts have risen.
