She was the youngest Olympian at the Tokyo Olympics and left the swimming community in awe of her talent. Fast forward to 2023, and she has become the first-ever member of the US team to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Ledecky took to her Instagram story and wrote, “Congrats Katie Grimes.” She acknowledged her talent and also congratulated the USA Swimming team, as she further stated, “USA Swimming Off to a Great Start.” The post was originally shared by the official handle of USA Swimming, and they were the first ones to report Grimes’ qualification for Paris.
This one would be really special for young Grimes as it is coming from the legend herself, who has been a trailblazer in swimming for women around the world. By fixing her spot, Grimes became the fourth American woman ever to qualify for the Olympics in open-water swimming. She achieved this feat during the ongoing world championships in Japan.

Swimming has a New Sensation
On Saturday, Grimes qualified after she placed third in the 10km open-water event at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan. She touched the finishing board in one tenth of a second and secured a bronze medal in a three-way photo finish with a time of 2:02:42.03. All the medal winners were able to fix their seats for the upcoming Olympics.

Grimes will also be participating in the 800-meter heat next week and will be looking to make the most of it. Apart from this, she had also won silver medals in 1500 meters and 400 meters in Budapest. With her qualifications, the 2022 World Aquatics silver medalist is all set to become the youngest athlete from the US to compete in the Olympics for two consecutive years.
