The Olympics might be over, but the chatter? Oh, it’s going to stick around for a while! Paris wasn’t just about breaking records—it had its fair share of drama, with controversies, and plenty of unexpected moments. One of the standout moments? Jessica Long, the 18-time Paralympic swimming legend, got hit with a ban from the Paris 2024 closing ceremony after bullying accusations, which only fuelled the post-Olympic buzz even more! The drama just keeps coming!

Jessica Long, along with three other U.S. Paralympic swimming stars—Gia Pergolini, Julia Gaffney, and Anastasia Pagonis—found themselves in hot water during the Paris Paralympics. The squad faced discipline over some social media posts that seemed to throw shade on the disability of their teammate, Christie Raleigh Crossley, sparking even more drama during the Games.

All four swimmers had a bit of a showdown online over Raleigh Crossley’s S9 classification. Crossley, 37 and making her Olympic debut, had to defend the seriousness of her injuries. But you know what? She didn’t let that hold her back—she came away with two gold medals and a total of five! Plus, she made waves by setting a world record in the 50-meter freestyle on August 29 in Paris. How cool is that? But hold up, there’s a new chapter starting now!

The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee handed out suspensions for social media posts that allegedly questioned the disability of a fellow teammate. According to the Washington Post, the posts broke USOPC’s rules about respecting teammates and representing Team USA with honor.

Now, besides being barred from the Closing Ceremonies, the swimmers face suspensions through next spring and are being cut from the Team USA celebratory trip to Washington D.C. Talk about a rough ending to their Paris trip! Pending appeals, they’re also losing their stipends. It’s a major blow for these athletes, especially with Long having won two golds in Paris.

The 6X Paralympian with 31 Olympic medals, Jessica Long, opened up about how amazing the Paris Paralympic Games were, calling them “amazing and historic.” In her heartfelt message, she urged unity and compassion among all athletes, stressing that our shared struggles can only lead to a better world inside and outside of sports. Jessica hopes the recent controversies won’t overshadow her true character or her dedication to para-sports. She remains committed to upholding the integrity of the Paralympics and advocating for positive changes that will benefit future generations. Jessica defended herself, drawing on her own challenging past with disability.
