After a joyful round of wakeboarding on July 9, Tasia took a cooling dip in the glistening water as the day progressed. But as Tasia attempted to ascend the boat’s ladder after feeling an agonizing sting in her knee. She yelled in shock as she saw the lurking serpent, confirming her fears that she had been bitten by a rattlesnake. As the family rushed her to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC), Tasia’s leg began to swell significantly. With swift medical attention and a dose of antivenom, her condition started to improve. However, the aftermath of the snake’s venom left her in considerable pain. It became clear that Tasia’s leg was significantly swollen as the hours went by.

She told East Idaho News, ?It hurt a ton! The first hour I could walk. I was just limping a little bit. After that first hour, it was really painful to walk. I couldn?t even like ? put any pressure on it. My mom had to carry me around?. Her condition was closely monitored by the hospital staff, who took measurements of her leg every couple of hours to look for any changes.

Tasia’s response to the first dose of antivenom was evaluated, and it was determined that a second dose was required because she had not yet made the desired progress. Fortunately, Tasia’s condition significantly improved after the second antivenom injection.

Road to recovery

Tasia’s body was able to start the healing process because the antivenom’s strong antibodies successfully neutralized the venom’s harmful elements. Tasia showed remarkable resiliency and a positive outlook throughout her stay in the hospital on Sunday, July 9, and Monday, July 10. She bravely declared that she wasn’t afraid of snakes and that she would cautiously return to the water despite the terrifying experience. Finally, the day came when Tasia was released from the hospital, much to the relief and joy of her family. She continued her recovery at home, surrounded by the love and care of her family and friends. Social media buzzed with rumors of increased rattlesnake bites in the Blacktail area, sparking concerns among the community.

However, local hospitals debunked these claims, confirming that the region typically handles several rattlesnake bites a year. While the threat of snake encounters looms, it’s essential to be informed and cautious without succumbing to unnecessary panic. Though not common, rattlesnakes can swim skillfully. These pit vipers employ their tails as rudders while propelling through water, often to travel from one side to another. While encounters with rattlesnakes in the water are relatively rare, it’s crucial to remain cautious, especially in areas where these venomous reptiles are known to inhabit. Most importantly, if a rattlesnake bites you, go to the hospital right away rather than attempting treatments like tourniquets or venom extraction.
