The US swimming Olympic trials are unfolding in Indiana, and anticipation is reaching a fever pitch. Phelps once remarked, “This is probably more intense than the actual Olympics,” remaining a beacon of eagerness for fans worldwide. Despite retiring from competitive swimming, Phelps has confirmed his attendance, adding to the buzz surrounding the event. 

Rumors are swirling that Phelps could be present at events like the 100m freestyle, where his friend Caeleb Dressel is likely to compete. The Circle City is ensuring an electrifying atmosphere at this year’s trials with Phelps’s return.

During the US Olympic trials, the Pat McAfee Show on Instagram reported that swimming legend Michael Phelps is expected to be in attendance on Friday. In fact, over the Facetime call with McAfee, Phelps states himself, “I’m coming in. I’ll be there on Friday.” Phelps further excitedly admitted, “Honestly, this thing, it’s the greatest,” adding, “Look, to be able to have the Olympic trials inside a football arena? Are you kidding me? It’s the biggest venue we’ve ever had in the sport.” He will be working alongside NBC over the weekend and his presence is predicted to draw in even more media coverage and attention towards the sport.

Phelps is a record-breaking swimmer and has one 8 Olympic gold medals in the 2008 Beijing Olympics alone. His hard work, dedication, and struggles with ADHD and mental health have inspired a generation of young athletes to overcome challenges and become the best version of themselves. Many of these athletes are likely going to participate in the swimming trials in Indiana itself. So, having their role model in person and watching them perform is going to be a momentous occasion. We’re sure that Michael Phelps’ presence will be much appreciated by everyone in attendance on Friday during the trials. 

All about the swimming trials on Friday and Phelps’ commentary wishes

This year, the trials are being held at the NFL’s Lucas Oil Stadium, the largest venue ever for the sport. On Friday, when Phelps will be attending, a number of exciting matches are scheduled. The Qualifying Heats and the Finals will be streamed at 11 a.m., 5:30 p.m., and 8 p.m. respectively. The categories include the women’s 100m butterfly, women’s 400m freestyle, and the 100m breaststroke.

Phelps has emphasized how tough the competition is by pointing out that 2,000-2,500 swimmers will compete for only 52 spots. This makes the trials more intense than the actual Olympics in a way. Additionally young swimmer’s will get a chance to go up against veterans like Kate Douglass, Ryan Murphy and Caeleb Dressel. Fans are so excited, they even wanted him to do commentary for the events. Given his insights and his massive fan following, this is no surprise. Hopefully, in the future we’ll see Michael Phelps take up the role of the commentator and guide us through the events.
