The 2023 World Aquatics Championships 2023 saw Thomas Ceccon rise to his potential. The 22-year-old Italian dominated the 50m butterfly in the absence of defending Champion Caeleb Dressel. He went on to win three golds in the three meets 100m freestyle as well. Given his form and such a young age, Ceccon seems destined for greatness. However, his recent decision contradicts the above statement.

Sports Journalist Nelson Carter Jr confirmed on Twitter/X that Ceccon had decided to skip the main events at the European Championships. The Italian swimmer will only participate in the 100m and 200m medley. Carter Jr. confirmed that Ceccon had decided to skip the backstroke or crawl events in order to focus on his stronger suits.

Ceccon is still young, and this decision to skip the main events at the European Championships is somewhat surprising. However, there could be several reasons behind it. Ceccon might want to manage his workload given that he has been competing non-stop, achieving Ki Status at the Swimming World Cup 2023.
