However, on May 22nd, Souness revealed that he is preparing to swim across the 21 miles of the English channel. Nonetheless, he is now all set to go on the swimming voyage on June 18th.
Souness decided to take up the swimming challenge in order to raise funds for the charity, DEBRA. The organization works for the welfare of children, who suffering from fatal diseases. The 70-year-old specifically desired to raise £ 1.1 million to defeat Epidermolysis bullosa, a condition that causes blisters in skin.
The ex-Anfield hero developed empathy for children affected by the chronic ailment in 2019. That year, he met a 14-year-old girl suffering from this agonizing condition. Souness once told BBC Breakfast in 2019, “It’s the most horrendous disease. If you’re inflicted by it you must wake up every morning and say why me. It’s a desperate situation.” The girl’s adverse situation moved him to take on the gargantuan swimming challenge.
