The 2023 Swimming World Cup is officially underway. It comprises three legs and this weekend the competition is unfolding in Berlin before moving on to Athens and Budapest in the upcoming weeks. While a host of events are scheduled for the men’s and women’s categories, one particular event seemed to have caught the attention of a champion athlete.
China’s Zhang Yufei, who is also known as China’s butterfly queen, has emerged as one of the swimming rivals for Team USA’s women swimmers. Recently, the Olympic champion named one of her most disliked events at the ongoing Swimming World Cup, shortly after getting the better of U.S. swimmer Katie Grimes.
Zhang Yufei names the most horrible event at the Swimming World Cup

On the first day of the 2023 Swimming World Cup, China’s Zhang Yufei finished first, ahead of USA’s Katie Grimes in the women’s 200m butterfly heats. A few hours later, Yufei recorded another win at the 200m butterfly finals event as she clocked a time of 2:07.11 while Grimes could only manage a fourth-place finish with a time of 2:09.08.

According to an X post, after her dominant win, Yufei was asked whether she enjoyed her swim, but to everyone’s surprise, she responded by saying,?“200 Butterfly is a horrible event.”?She later accompanied her comments with a laugh while she now looks ahead to her next set of races. The Chinese sensation has been in amazing form this season and took the 2023 Asian Games by storm with her impressive medal tally.

Zhang Yufei dazzled at the 2023 Asian Games
Zhang Yufei won the most gold medals at the recent 19th edition of the Asian Games that were held in Hangzhou. The swimmer won her sixth gold medal of the competition in style as she set a new meet record in the women’s 50m butterfly event with a time of 25.10. She was most likely to win an unprecedented 7th gold medal at the Asian Games, but her Chinese 4x100m medley relay team was disqualified. Yufei also revealed that there were times when she was not able to stand as she suffered an undisclosed illness.

However, her recent performance in Berlin highlighted her hot run of form once again as she continues to build on her win. With the 2024 Paris Olympics less than a year away, China’s swimming sensation will be aiming to continue her winning streak as she attempts a clean sweep in Paris.
