With this victory, he has broken the European record of 200 meters in the IM set by Laszlo Cseh of Hungary. It is also the third-fastest time in swimming history, with Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte being the only ones ahead of him. Talking about his dream run in Japan, the Frenchman stated, “I feel amazing these four days. Very big for me,” He further added. “Very happy with the time and with the win today.”

The video of this heat was shared by World Aquatics on their Twitter handle. Duncan Scott of Britain was the second to touch the finish pad with a time of 1:55.95, and Tom Dean took home the bronze with a time of 1:56.07. Marchand’s previous best in 200m was 1:55.22, which came last year during the world championships. He has bettered that time by a significant margin and was left behind by a mere 0.79 seconds behind Lochte’s record.
