Grimes first came into the spotlight as the youngest member of the U.S. Olympic team in Tokyo.
This time she has proven herself once again by securing her spot in the open water event with an electrifying finish at the World Championships. Katie Grimes entered the World Championship Games in Fukuoka with very high expectations. She astounded everyone by not only meeting those expectations but surpassing them with her impressive performance in the 10K race.

Katie Grimes competed in the 10K event against seasoned veterans like Leonie Beck, Chelsea Gubecka, Sharon van Rouwendaal, and Ana Marcela Cunha. Leonie Beck won the gold in the event, while Australian swimmer Chelsea Gubecka earned the silver. There was stiff competition between Grimes and Van Rouwendaal. Van Rouwendaal of the Netherlands was the defending world champion in the event, but Grimes displayed exceptional determination and endurance.

Just before the finish, the Dutch swimmer took a short stroke giving Grimes a chance to finish a fraction of a second earlier than her. She won the bronze medal and an early spot on the Olympic team. USA Swimming announced the news on their official Instagram account with the caption, “KATIE GRIMES IS HEADED TO PARIS‼️‼️” With this recent achievement, the young swimmer became the fourth American athlete to qualify for the open-water event at the Olympics.
