Back in 2023, swimming legend, Michael Phelps got on board with Panasonic’s green impact initiative alongside Nathan Chen and Naomi Osaka. The three athletic stars worked to highlight the environmental challenges and champion sustainability. As Panasonic continues to make an impact with its sustainability project today with Phelps and Chen afloat on the project, could it prove an inspirational instance for the figure skater’s comeback still in speculation?
“I’m not really planning on stepping in,” Nathan Chen had remarked late last year on his comeback potential. However, he hadn’t cleared off the possibility of giving it a go. If one sought inspiration or a clearer mindset in contemplation on walking towards a return, joining forces with Michael Phelps wouldn’t be all that bad a prospect.

Panasonic started its Green Impact initiative in 2023 to encourage young people to commit to sustainability. At the forefront were the three athletic stars up on the pedestal. Today as the initiative readies to move towards its last spot in the project, Michael Phelps and Nathan Chen updated their reunion. “Dove into what I can best describe as melted ice with @m_phelps00,” the 2022 Olympic gold medalist wrote. “So cool to work with this legend.” While Phelps added, “fun 2 days.”

With the Green Impact campaign, Nathan Chen, and Michael Phelps aim to raise awareness about the environmental challenges that the world faces today and encourages everyone to come together and become the champions of sustainability. Nevertheless, though Chen and Phelps have joined forces for Panasonic’s sustainability project, the figure skater’s fandom ponders over his comeback to the sport following his collab with the Flying Fish.
Nathan Chen’s mindset on his comeback

Nathan Chen is currently pursuing his undergraduate degree in statistics and data science at Yale. As he does, the 10-time grand prix medalist hasn’t foregone a chance to get to the campus’ ice rink every weekend, reports Olympics.com. However, the practice has been more for self as he attains happiness in his past glory. “It’s a great place to be, actually. I’m very happy right now,” he says.

The 24-year-old has accumulated 3 medals across 2 Olympic games in his career. He further is a three-time World champion, and a 2017 Four Continent champion. The success his career has lent has been from his sheer passion and love for the sport. Even as he stays on an uncertain path in regard to his comeback, he has stayed assured of his stance.

“If I’m just chasing medals or certain external criteria, I don’t think I’d be very successful. I don’t think I’d be able to push myself past hardship if that’s the motivator,” he once stated. Thus, as he remains aware, fans only await the decision the future brings.
