In a recent interview with Insider, Phelps disclosed how he is trying to make his sons better than him by using his experiences.

The 23x Olympic gold medalist, Michael Phelps, has achieved an abundance of success in his life. As a father, he wants his son to become more successful than him, but at the same time, he wants them to never repeat the mistakes that he had once committed. Henceforth, he is helping his children from a young age to learn to cope better with stress, anxiety, and ways to relax the mind.

While talking with the Insider, Phelps revealed“I’m excited to pass along my playbook of things I did well and things I could have done better.” Phelps ensures that they are expanding their mental strength equally to their physical strength. He stated, “If you do both, you basically become a superhero.”

While opening up, he shared one of the routines they perform when someone gets hurt. He said, “If one of my sons’ feelings get hurt, we give them a moment to calm themselves down, then we talk them through what they’re feeling and why, and that’s so important.” But what was that all in Phelps’s Playbook? Michael Phelps has gone through a lot of mental stress in his career. Moreover, he has done exceptionally well to cope with all that and conquer it every time. However, he wants his sons to be prepared for the upcoming hardships. Other than the aforementioned mechanisms, he had more to add. What were they? 

According to Phelps, first of all, addressing the problem is the best way to get out of the anxiety. He ensures that his children do that with each other. Moving forward, he promotes writing stuff down whenever the mind becomes heavy with problems.
