The 2024 World Aquatics Championships have thrilled the swimming world with epic displays of dominance. Following a thrilling Day 2 Finals that featured gripping races such as the Men’s 100m Breaststroke, Women’s 100m Butterfly, Men’s 100m Backstroke Semifinal, Women’s 100m Breaststroke Semifinal, and Women’s 200m Individual Medley Final, among others, anticipation soared for the men’s 50-meter breaststroke event on February 13, 2024.

As the beasts of the pool were set to battle it out, all eyes were on the 2020 Olympic gold medalist in the 100-meter individual medley, Michael Andrew, hoping to see the icon surge to the finals. However, the record breaker was left trailing, and his World Championship dreams came to a crumble as victory shone on another.

Michael Andrew misses the final splash at the 2024 Doha World Aquatics Championships

According to World Aquatics, the blazing finish in semifinal 2 of the men’s 50m breaststroke event at the 2024 Doha World Aquatics Championships saw Sam Williamson of Australia win the gold with a time of 26.41 seconds. Nic Fink, representing the USA, secured second place with a time of 26.77 seconds, while Lucas Matthias from Germany came in third, clocking 27.01 seconds.

Trailing behind the pack, Michael Andrew from the USA claimed sixth place with a time of 27.18 seconds. The semifinal summary released by World Aquatics indicated that the top eight swimmers from Semifinals 1 and 2 had earned their spot in the final round based on their stellar performances. Andrew trailed at number 11, which meant that Michael Andrew’s dream of clinching a World Championship title in 2024 crumbled.
