In the wake of the Olympics year, the likes of swimming veterans Simone Manuel and Chase Kalisz are all up to repeat their successes in the French metropolis this time. With them, several budding swimming talents like Leon Marchand, Ilya Kharun, and Summer McIntosh are not far from etching their flaps into the water. All these swimming royalties may find an observant similarity apart from being competitive swimmers. That is, they are taking their Olympic preparation under the tutelage of legendary coach Bob Bowman

Former swimming ace Jeroen Lecoutere closely observed the daily activities at the renowned ASU swimming camp just before the Paris Olympics. After a thorough examination, he meticulously noted that three coaching leaders by the common pool were mechanically engaged in their tasks. The seasoned swimmer couldn’t miss out on the obvious catch of the fuming issue as he mentioned in the caption of his X-post, “Problem: give more value with 3 coaches”. Whereas taking notes mechanically didn’t seem to him quite efficient in the manner. So ultimately, Lecoutere came up with an AI-modified solution in the post.

He proposed Swimtraxx, a generative AI model, to document the timings of each wave. Ultimately, this AI-driven model could offer real-time comparative analysis of every performance and provide feedback. Swimtraxx emerged as the brainchild of Jeroen Lecoutere and, over the past few years, the technology has raised hopes of elevating the Olympics to new heights.

The inevitability of the technology

Jeroen Lecoutere’s shared post also featured a YouTube video from SwimSwam. The video captured Coach Bob Bowman hurriedly instructing swimmers on their routines. In this visual, a frustrated Leon Marchand tried to conceal his exasperation, while the reigning World Male Swimmer of the Year confirmed his aspirations for the future. Summer McIntosh echoed this sentiment. Both Canadian swimmers currently train at the Sun Devils camp, enhancing their prospects for the Olympics. Nevertheless, according to Jeroen Lecoutere, technology might prove more beneficial for their endeavors.

Lecoutere presented the argument that introducing technology could potentially allow coaches to focus more on coaching rather than merely listing tasks mechanically. However, according to Bowman, Leon Marchand is positioned as the next ‘Michael Phelps,’ and nothing seems to hinder his Olympic prospects in Paris. Nevertheless, it remains crucial to ascertain his stance on incorporating this modified technology into training.
