Today morning, another shark was spotted swimming in the waters near the Ciutadella Port, Menorca. According to the Daily Mail, in a video recording of the incident, the shark was seen swimming around the boats anchored on the port. The shark was named ‘tintorera’, probably after the movie which features a man-killing tiger shark. However, there has not been any piece of news confirming that the shark spotted today hurt any of the beachgoers.

The shark that was spotted earlier on Thursday was found dead in the sea, which even made some onlookers worried for the safety of the one spotted today. The demise of the shark aired when a local weather blog shared a photo of the shark lying lifeless in the water, and said, “The seven-foot shark that approached the shoreline has died.” When the seven-foot shark was sighted earlier, a wave of panic washed over the swimmers, with an elderly woman even experiencing a panic attack. This is not the first time that the coasts of Spain have been subjected to the menace of ferocious sharks.

In 2022, the world’s fastest shark, the mighty Mako, was seen swimming along the shoreline of Barcelona. The great Mako shark can reach speeds of 45mph and can grow up to 12 feet long. In 2021, swimming was banned for a while at the Playa del Portet beach in Teulada after a shark sighting due to such sightings being uncommon. However, in both these cases, no injury was reported. This, however, has not been a consolation to the netizens, as panic continues to rise.

Continuous shark sightings give rise to paranoia

When the news broke out on social media through the Facebook page of the Daily Mail, swimmers and beach-goers were rightly concerned. Someone asked an apt question for the situation, by commenting, “Did it eat anybody?” Someone also suggested that swimming at the beach should be suspended, and said, “A shark? No way best evacuate the beach. Can’t take any chances”.

Another post-viewer shared their logical viewpoint on the situation, and said, “Humans should remember sharks and other dangerous fish etc live in the oceans”. A commentator shared a gut-wrenching story, and wrote, “Well someone got eaten alive by a shark the other day in Egypt some people are clearly daft and don’t realise some sharks will come for you not all mind there business”. Luckily, no one was injured by the sharks and hopefully, these beaches will remain a safe place for swimmers and vacationers.
