For 23-time Olympic gold medalist, golf is not just a pass time. Much like his swimming, Michael Phelps is equally passionate about his golfing skills. Even before the ICON series was a thing,?the Baltimore Bullet?was often spotted on the golf course. Though after swimming, he never considered becoming a professional golfer, that did not stop him from being well-versed in the sport.

Recently as Michael Phelps sat down with a celebrity panel of Tim Clark, Jim Mackay, and Parker McLachlin for the weekly episode of GOLF’S Subpar, the swimming legend had a lot to share. Phelps did not just open up about his golfing future but also revealed his feelings when he grabs the stick.

Michael Phelps speaks about golf?

After having devoted two decades to professional swimming,?Phelps?says the struggle for him is not yet over. He revealed that though in the pool, he “had great success.”?With countless medals and titles, he was undeniably the swimming GOAT, but when it comes to golf, he is still not the ‘professional.’

He says, “I literally struggle on top of countless shots.”?Though Phelps is aware that such worry from his end is irrelevant and “not necessary.”?But for him, everything is in his head. According to him, swimming was easy for him, at least because it was something that Phelps practiced every day.

But when it comes to hitting that ball with the golf stick, he says it’s not easy. But with time, “it gets more confident.”?Thus, brushing aside all the pressure, Phelps confessed that the more time he spends at the golf course, the more relaxed he is. Each time after “hitting a golf ball,”?there is thus a sense of satisfaction that encourages Phelps to do better.

A brief look at Phelps and his love for golf

Phelps did not just make records in the pool, and despite being a non-professional, he made the heads turn during the 2012 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship as he hit a 159ft putt to perfection. To date, that?shot?remains one of the longest-televised putts in golfing history.

After Phelps retired, he is regularly spotted at the golf course several times. In 2019, he was?spotted?standing in the crowd behind?Tiger Woods?during the Masters Tournament. Recently, Phelps was also part of the?ICON series. There he played alongside the 15-time PGA tour winner Fred Couples and NBA champion JR Smith.
