With the World Aquatics Championships being midway, swimmers are coming up as Paris picks one by one. Adam Peaty and Nic Fink are always toe-to-toe. None wants to make way for the other to secure the win. In the 50m breaststroke event, Aussie icon Sam Williamson left Fink in third and Peaty out of the podium.
Having defeated the reigning breaststroke champion in his forte, the US native did it again. In the 4 x 100 mixed medley, when the world record holder in the same event finished on top, the British swimmer settled for bronze again. His last bronze came in the 100m breaststroke where the former finished on top as well. The 21st edition of the World Championships is not working in Peaty’s favor after all.

Undefeated at the Doha event, the 30-year-old swimmer reignited hope in fans’ hearts. The previous 100m breaststroke was a historic feat by all means. The US was under the ‘American curse’ or ‘American drought’ as no title came in the 100m dash in 17 years. But Fink’s stellar strokes bore fruits.

Clocking in at 58.57s, the American record holder in the long course 50m backstroke, shed light on what anchored his performance. “It’s great to see Adam back in the water, he’s just great for the sport and the stroke, especially. I think this is his first world since 2019, so it’s happy to see his face around all the usual suspects”, said the 2021 Short Course gold medalist.
Building on his resume like no other, he looked forward to tussling with Peaty the most. On the other hand, the Olympic gold medalist in the 100m breaststroke had some other plans. Fresh off conquering drinking issues and mental blows, Adam Peaty didn’t pitch up for medals this time.

“It’s a bittersweet feeling because we didn’t come here for medals. I wasn’t really too fussy about aiming for those medals here, because that’s just not the target”. Though he placed his mind right, aiming for the win, his cards didn’t support him. “The next five months are going to really define who I am as an athlete”. Eyeing the Paris Olympics, both Fink and Peaty will lock horns with the best in store, again.
