Can Bobby Finke bounce back from his Paris disappointment, or is this the beginning of the end?

The Games have started! Parisian soil is witnessing some marvelous feats followed by some heartbreaking defeats. One such loss drew major attention after Bobby Finke had to face an upsetting loss in the 800-m freestyle. Notably, this loss was a gold medal. Finke was defending his title in the Paris season. He clinched gold in the 800 m at the Tokyo Olympics, which was also his maiden year, apparently.

Although he couldn’t make it to gold, the Olympian gold medalist clinched silver. Losing gold was perhaps a big loss; however, shrouding his annoyance further, he said, “I like winning,” with a mellow smile. “So you know, it really sucks not to win. But I really did the best I could, and I’ve got to be proud of that even though if it’s not a gold. But you know, it’s over. It’s nothing to be disappointed in.”

Notably, Italian swimmer Daniel Wiffen clinched gold ahead of Finke. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little disappointed,” accepted the University of Florida alum. Yet despite all the strengths and disappointments, Bobby hopes to cumulatively take it as a motivational drive to perform his best in the coming 1500 m on August 3 and 4.
