The Golden Goggle Awards honors the year’s best American swimmers. This year, the awards placed added emphasis on the performances at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships. The US team finished with 38 medals, far ahead of the rest of their competition. That tally includes seven gold, 20 silver, and 11 bronze medals. Jack Alexy and Ryan Murphy accounted for 10 of those.
Jack Alexy made waves in his international debut. He and Murphy were the most decorated American male swimmers at the meet. Alexy secured gold in the 4X100m medley relay and bronze in the 4X100m free relay. To that, he added silver medals in the 50m, 100m free, and the mixed 4X100m medley relay. His performances secured him three nominations in individual categories.

Jack Alexy was nominated for the Male Race of the Year, Male Athlete of the Year, and the Breakout Performer. Before the awards show broke for dinner, he was awarded the Breakout Performer of the Year. He beat out Thomas Heilman, Dare Rose, and Katie Grimes to that honor.
As for the Male Race of the Year, that award went to Bobby Finke for his performance in the 1500m free. Jack Alexy’s performance in the 100m free saw him nominated for the same. Finke also saw off competition from Ryan Murphy, whose performance in the 100m backstroke saw him nominated, to claim that award. Alexy might yet add to his award before the night is through.

Jack Alexy was part of the 4X100m medley relay team that set a competition record this year in Fukuoka. He played a pivotal role in that strong finish. There is a strong possibility he will walk away from the show with more than one award. It remains to be seen if he can take this form into the next year. He will head to the Paris Olympics as part of Team USA following his impressive showing in Fukuoka. One must wait to see if that translates to success on the Olympic stage.
