We all know Michael Phelps is a man of many talents. From swimming to golf to football, the Baltimore bullet likes to pursue his interests in cross-sporting activities. Well, the swimming prodigy also has another hidden artistic flair, which is singing. And interestingly, the Flying fish’s liking for music once made him go vocal in public. 

In 2007, Phelps went on a goodwill trip to China to promote the sport of swimming and the Special Olympics. And, during his visit to Beijing, the Baltimore bullet tried his luck in singing and went public.

In his autobiographical log, Beneath the Surface, Michael Phelps penned rather a fascinating anecdote from 2007. As per the book, while touring around Beijing for promotional activities, Phelps along with American swimmer, Peter Vanderkaay and Canadian swimmer, Andrew Hurd went for a karaoke night.

Interestingly, Phelps sang Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline”, while “Peter and Drew each tried their hands at Madonna”. Moreover, commenting on his musical prowess, the Olympian jokingly wrote, “I’m pretty sure American idol won’t be calling for the video”.

However, the swimmers might have sung publicly, but as per Phelps, their songs “will not be repeated for public viewing again”. Nevertheless, it is not the only time when the swimming legend tried his hand at Karaoke.

Phelps synced with Ryan Lochte in a Carpool Karaoke

In 2016, before the commencement of the Rio Olympics, Team USA created spoofs of the Late Late Show’s famous Uber Karaoke. In one spoof, Phelps synchronized with legendary swimmers like Ryan Lochte, Allison Schmitt, and Missy Franklin. Interestingly, the swimmers hit the bevy of some popular albums, like Miley Cyrus’s Party in the U.S.A. and Flo Rida’s My House.

Clearly, the Baltimore Bullet really enjoys engaging in musical activities. And, his carpool Karaoke with his fellow swimmers is one such instance. With this, we hope to listen to more of Michael’s musical notes.
