Michael Phelps is one of America’s most renowned athletes. With an illustrious swimming career, Phelps, over the course, has created and broken multiple records. “The Flying Fish,” with 28 Olympic medals, is one of the world’s most decorated Olympians.

Back in the year 2008, Michael added one more achievement. But for young Phelps, the accomplishment was of special regard. A dominant name in the world of sports, the rising star got to share his name alongside prominent world leaders and celebrities.

Phelps shares an achievement with prominent faces

Years of hard work, consistency, dedication, and passion bore Phelps a sweet fruit when he got the honor to share an accomplishment with some of the world’s most extraordinary. In 2008, Phelps was named one of “GQ’s Men of the Year.” The then 27-year-old was given the spot following his tremendous success at the pool in the 2012 London Olympics.

Registering his phenomenal win, Phelps secured four gold and two silver medals. This straight away made him a global sensation. Later, he went ahead to claim his spot as one of the most decorated Olympians in history. Phelps got recognition and appreciation for his record-breaking performance in London.

Phelps got honored alongside the then president-elect Barack Obama, Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio, and Golden Globe awardee Jon Hamm. To share a place amongst personalities of such a high reputation must have been a great honor for the swimming maestro.

The sky is the limit for Michael Phelps

Earning 23 Olympic gold medals is not a cakewalk. Things were a little difficult for the 15-year-old Phelps when he failed to secure a medal at his debut Athens Olympics. Much to his disappointment, he finished 5th in the race. The young lad came back heartbroken but returned with firm determination.

Four years later, Phelps would eventually win his first gold medal. With 28 medals across 5 Olympics, Phelps dominated the pool like no other. He is arguably one of the best swimmers America has ever produced.
