A dip in a reservoir turned into a hazard, early in the noon, for two families. Two teenagers who went to take a dip in the Carr Mill Dam grappled for their lives, as one of them made it out safely, while the other did not. The reservoir is situated in St. Helens in Merseyside County and is the county’s largest body of inland water.
A recreational afternoon turned into a horror story as a 15-year-old got into distress while swimming in the Carr Mill Dam. Unfortunately for the teenager, and her family, the rescue operation did not end happily.

The site is a spot for locals to hang out, which is what two teenage girls planned to do on a fateful afternoon on Thursday, June 1. Around 12:30 pm, the emergency services answered a distress call over the safety of a teenager and rushed to the scene. Despite their best efforts, the rescue operations could not save the young girl.
After hours of searching, they were able to recover the lifeless body of Erin, a once lively and capable girl. According to ITV News, the police ruled out any foul play and concluded the death was a result of drowning. The officials have requested the residents, especially children, to not endanger their lives by swimming in the reservoir. Chief Inspector Holden from Merseyside Police Force said, “We know how tempting it can be to cool down in the water on a hot summers day, but we want to ensure that young people are equipped with the right knowledge to keep them safe around water.”
Firefighters from the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service worked along with the police force and ambulance services, even taking the help of airborne and underwater drones. The rescue attempts were, sadly, unsuccessful. Needless to say, the teenager’s family and friends are heartbroken at her untimely demise. When the news broke out on social media, many gave their condolences.
