Michael Phelps is the most decorated athlete of all time. The swimming legend is known for his numerous Olympic medals and world records. However, one doesn’t get to the top without battling hurdles. For Phelps, the obstacles came in the form of his mental health issues and his estrangement from his father. While he has been vocal about his ADHD and other mental health issues, his relationship with his father has always been a sensitive topic.

Tragically, the star recently lost his father. Fred Phelps passed away on 24th October, as per an announcement by Michael Phelps himself. The legend wrote a heartwarming note as a tribute to his father. Meanwhile, his fellow athletes and other celebrities thronged the comments section and sent their condolences to the star.

“Couldn’t imagine”: stars send their love to Michael Phelps

Michael Phelps took to Instagram to post a photo of himself with his father, with the caption,?“you?ll always be my dad?And I?ll always be your son?Love you dad and I will miss you???? rip dad”. Upon hearing the tragic news, celebrities flooded the comments section with love and concern for Phelps. Among the many comments, some notable ones that stood out were from the two-time Olympic gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin, professional skateboarder Jagger Eaton, and Miley Cyrus’ ex-boyfriend, Australian swimmer and singer Cody Simpson.

Jagger Eaton wrote a heartfelt message saying, “I couldn?t imagine what you?re feelin brotha, I?m so sorry for your loss. Me and my family send our prayers and condolences ???”.

Mikaela Shiffrin sent love and commented?“???”.

Tunisian swimmer and three-time Olympic medalist Oussama Mellouli sent his prayers,?“Im sorry for your loss Michael! May he rest in peace ?”.

Portuguese canoeist Fernando Pimenta sent his love, saying?“My condolences and keep strong ????”.

Olympian bobsledder Lauren Gibbs sent her condolences by commenting, “So sorry for your loss Michael ????”. And Australian singer and swimmer Cody Simpson was also among those who paid their respects, as he commented “Thinking of you man. Sending love. So sorry. ??”.

Although Phelps and his father initially shared an estranged relationship, both had come a long way. In fact, Phelps went on to develop a friendship, after his father stood by him during his rehab days. The Olympic legend has been grateful to his father for being there during the tough times and aimed to strengthen their relationship. Bearing such a tragic loss isn’t easy. However, Phelps is blessed with support from all over the world.
