Katherine Cadwallader Douglass is without a doubt one of the most prominent prospects for the US in International swimming competitions. She won a bronze medal at the 200m individual medley in Tokyo Olympics in 2021, 8 NCAA championships (five individual, three relays), and is currently part of her National team, all of which she achieved before her 21st birthday. In yet another stunning achievement, Douglass recently broke a particular record that she registered last year. She did previously once as well.
Kate Douglass, a Virginia senior, recently broke a record she created at the 2023 Cavalier invite from February 3-5. She had once previously broken the same record, also set by her. Hence, as of now, Douglass holds the distinction of holding the top 3 spots in this particular category.

The 200-yard breaststroke competition has been Douglass’ forte for quite some time now. Her dominance in this discipline began in March 2022 when she broke Lilly King’s record from both 2018 and 2019. It was the first of her record-setting adventure in this particular swimming event. Douglass completed the swim in 2:02.19 to break King’s record of 2:02.60 and 2:02.9 from 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Her next record came a few months later in Tennessee. During the Tennessee invitational from November 17-19, 2022, Douglass broke her own record for the first of two times, after completing the swim in 2:01.87. She bettered her record by 0.32 seconds.

However, her thirst for breaking the same record was hardly quenched. In the most recent invite in Cavalier, Douglass finished the race at an extraordinary speed, clocking at 2:01.43. She had now bettered her record from November 2022 by a whopping 0.44 seconds in a matter of 3 months. Besides her stunning records in NCAA competitions, Douglass has carved her name in other swimming events as well.

Besides her 200m dominance, Douglass also holds the American record in women’s 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly as well. She broke Abbey Weitzeil’s record of 20.90 seconds by a margin of 0.03 seconds when she finished the 50-yard freestyle in 20.87 seconds at the ACC Championships, in 2022. At the same championships, the next day, she broke Claire Curzan’s American record of 49.24 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly, by 0.20 seconds, finishing at 49.04. In 2021, she also qualified for the Olympics after the US women’s team for various swimming disciplines was announced.

Besides her only Olympic bronze, Douglass has otherwise won multiple gold medals at the Short Course World Swimming Championships. At a very young age and in the prime of her career, Douglass would definitely look to bring multiple medals, preferably gold, at the Paris Olympics next year.
