The 16th FINA World Championships have begun. Australia’s ‘Garden City’, Melbourne bid for hosting after it had to be replaced from Kazan, Russia. Notably, the Championship has begun with a record shattering day. The swimmers created not one but three records on the first day of the FINA World Championships. However, the day began with the record statement by the 17-year-old Canadian swimmer.

Indeed, the Championship has begun on a high note. Moreover, it will be interesting to see what the next five days have for us. The championship has been taking place in the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Center from 13th December to 18th December. And more than 1000 young swimming contenders from all over the world will be seen competing for glory.
New swimming World Junior Record alert
17-year-old, Ilya Kharun, from Canada, made an incredible start to this year’s world championship. On the first day of the Championship, he created a new junior record. He finished his semi-final of the 50m Men’s Butterfly category in just 22.28 seconds to reach the feat.

Without waiting any further, World Aquatics tweeted through their official account about the achievement. They wrote, “It’s a new World Junior Record!! Iliya Kharun swam the Men’s 50 Butterfly semi-final in 22.28 #FINAMelbourne2022 #swimming.”

The day of the new World Records
The day began with a record-shattering performance by Ilya Kharun. However, the new records didn’t stop there. Later in the day, Australian women set a new world record in the Women’s 4×100 Freestyle relay by finishing it in 3:25.43 minutes.

Furthermore, the next record was broken in the Men’s 4×100 Freestyle relay, by Italian Men. They finished it in 3:02.75 minutes.
