On 14th July, the World Fukuoka Aquatics Championship began which was conducted on the northern shore of Japan. A total of 75 events are being organized with six different disciplines, Swimming, Diving, high diving, water polo, artistic swimming, and open water swimming. The American competitive swimmer Katie Ledecky took part in it along with the world’s best swimmers from around the globe.

Katie Ledecky already has 14 individual titles when she participated in the game. people were excited to see if she will break or equal the record of swimming legend Michael Phelps by winning one more title in the competition. On 22nd July, the NBC Olympics and Paralympics posted on Twitter saying, will Katie Ledecky break Michael Phelps’s record? However, Ledecky could secure a silver only but now she has finally done it with a gold and matching the record of Michael Phelps.

Katie Ledecky made history after winning her 15th world title

On Tuesday, 25th July, the delightful news was shared by USA Swimming that Ledecky won the 1500 freestyle event and set the timing of 17.04 seconds. This became her 15th World Record title in swimming which she tied with Michael Phelps, the most decorated swimmer of all time. Phelps also praised the 26-year-old Ledecky after such glorifying performance, he reshared a post from Team USA Swimming sharing the news. Phelps reposted the post on his Instagram story and wrote, “Congrats @Katieledecky !!

After the match, Ledecky expressed her inner delight and told in a press conference, “I’ve known Michael for many years now, looked up to him as a little kid.” She added, “Just never really imagined I would be in this position. It’s always an honor to win a medal for Team USA, especially gold.” This was nothing short of magic to witness which made two records at a single race. This victory of 1500-meter freestyle also became the fifth win of the category in her career. Now, what is next for Ledecky?

Can Ledecky break the tie with one more win?

Katie Ledecky is shining in the limelight of the swimming arena and she made history on Tuesday by winning gold and equaling records. However, she can add one more title to her name and break the tie if she wins the 800-meter freestyle which is scheduled on Saturday. Ledecky is also giving her best to make all the records possible, she has been constantly working on her improvement. In the press conference, she said, “I feel like I’m getting better each time I swim them. That’s what you love to see. You love to see improvement, and that’s been my biggest goal over the last couple of years.”

Katie Ledecky is also the seven-time Olympic gold medalist who defeated the Italian swimmer, Simona Quadarella and Li Bingjie from China in the 1500-meter race. She won the race 30 seconds ahead of the Italian swimmer. However, she has a huge chance to break the record. The closing ceremony of the championship is scheduled for 30th July, what do you think?
