With 11 World Surf League titles to his name, Kelly Slater’s records are as enviable as any great sportsperson in the world. Such is the magnitude his achievements, that any clip from his 4 decade-long career is a blast from the past. In yet another video, an old one from the 90s shows Slater literally “dancing” on the waves. Unafraid even in his youth, the surfing great always exuded confidence and panache when on his surfboard.

A video from 1998 resurfaced where Kelly Slater, as a 26-year-old, is seen riding large waves while a banger of a song plays alongside. Fans are both impressed by Slater’s prowess and the music as well.

An Instagram post by Surf Radio went, “#sundayrepost Kelly Slater “Dancing” (edit)”.  They also tagged Slater in the post, who hasn’t responded to it himself. However, his fans couldn’t help themselves from praising the GOAT of surfing and rejoicing in his old video.

The video was finely tuned to the song ‘People Everyday’ by the American Hip Hop group ‘Arrested Development’. Slater was on his surfboard, riding on some of the largest waves there was. He was also displaying his famous surf tricks while the waves kept hitting him.

His fans, like him, are evergreen

As the fans were mesmerized by this video, they took to comments to express their love for Slater. Here’s how some of them reacted:

“Let’s combine if these waves would be well scored, imagine there in the 90s?!?!? The guy was light years apart from the rest of the troop… backside sharp, fast, and vertical. If it had been kept on Al Merrick….” wrote a fan who took to a deep dive into the 90s, when he loved surfing and Slater more than ever.

“The GOAT !!!” wrote a fan with a shocked emoji, showing his exact expression on seeing Slater ride those waves.

“would love to see you ride some of this old school shapes again, your surfing was next level” wrote a fan whose nostalgia-powered comment forced him to make this wish.

“I saw these from 98 live,” wrote a fan who revisited this blast from the past.

“your surfing was next level” wrote a fan who was knee-deep in compliments of the surfer.

This random clip from Slater’s past, one of many where he achieved something great, surely made the day for all his fans and surfing fans in general. While many have tried to replicate Slater’s success rate, the 51-year-old has finally spilled the mantra behind his success after 40 years and 11 WSl titles.
