In movies about wildlife or giant sea monsters, it has always been a staple to show the sheer size of the creature next to the timid human characters that remain in awe of them. Be it the sci-fi movie The Meg, where a megalodon wreaks havoc or simply the Great White Shark in Steven Speilberg’s Jaws, these oceanic creatures are always made to look larger than what they really are for dramatization effects. However, such massively-sized marine creatures might not always be limited to movies. As a humongous orca emerges out of the ocean next to a steamer boat in a viral video, surfing fans are in disbelief at the monstrosity of the mammal.
Orcas are also known as killer whales as they hunt their prey up to long distances before they can munch on them. From seals to penguins to dolphins, nothing is off-menu for these giant sea monsters. As one such giant orca, rises up beside a man on a boat, it looked as if it could devour the man whole.

The scene looked like something right out of a movie screen, and yet, it was real. In a small video trending on Twitter, a man is standing on the back of his boat as it is steaming away at full speed. Not long behind are these couple of orcas who are wake-surfing as fast as the boat itself. The man is in disbelief at what he sees next.
Twitter account Massimo wrote in his profile, “This is called wake-riding and this orca is very likely doing it for fun. It’s literally surfing — it can go very fast with very little effort when riding in the wake of a boat like this”. However, it’s not just the speed of those orcas but also their size that blew his mind.

In the video, the man is seen blowing some kind of a whistle in the beginning, possibly directed at those orcas. As one orca leaps out and propels on his left, another orca does the same on his right. Only this time, it was massive. The speed of these orcas while wake-surfing was enough to give surfing fans a jolt through their body.
The speed and size of these orcas scare the bejesus out of fans
Here’s how some of the fans reacted:

“I think I’ll stick to boating on lakes”, wrote a fan expressing his fear of those giant orcas, albeit in a humorous way. “I would have to change my underwear after that,” wrote another fan who believes he couldn’t have been able to handle such a mammoth size in front of him.
“I feel sick, shaking inside”, wrote someone who too was severely awestruck in fear at the size of those orcas. What would it have been like if they snuck up on him? “That second one is an absolute unit!” wrote someone acknowledging the behemoth of a creature that leaped up second. And as the wild, scary, and humor-induced comments don’t come to an end. Here’s another fan writing, “I’d shit my pants”.

Two surfers were once scarily surprised by a baby seal boarding their surfboard. It is only imaginable what would it feel like next to an orca. As orcas are one of the deadliest creatures in the ocean, going up to large extents just to hunt their prey, the fear is reasonable. One of the orcas also did a somersault mid-ocean but kept its speed intact. There have been reports that orcas have been trying to sink boats as well. With all this in mind, it is unclear if the experience of the man on seeing those orcas was a pleasant one or did he just escape a serious tragedy by a narrow margin.
