Is Cayla Moore set to surpass her sister Carissa in the surfing world? What do you think?

When on a surfboard in the water, the gaze is definitely on this 31-year-old veteran! She is none other than the Hawaii native, Carissa Moore. With her 5 world champion titles and the first-ever Olympic gold in women’s surfing, Moore is easily amongst the most decorated individuals to have mastered this aquatic skill. But, she definitely isn’t the only one in the Moore clan who embodies this whole-hearted love.

Apparently, Carissa Moore’s younger sister also shares her passion for this sport. While the older sibling has left an indelible mark in the domain, the younger one is following her own trajectory, in no race whatsoever. Nonetheless, the two seem to share a tight-knit bond.

Cayla Moore is Chris Moore and Carol Lum’s daughter, and the pro surfer Carissa Moore’s sibling. At the age of 17, she won her first national title, as part of the Kamehameha Surf Team, who bagged their first NSSA National High School Championship. Therefore, she does take after her sister’s love for surfing. Besides that, she also plays water polo, which she believes positively influences her surfing skills.

But how is the dynamic with her sister? Well, speaking to the Free Surf Magazine, Cayla once talked about her surfing endeavors as well as highlighted a few things from her personal life. Her sister is a household name in the sport, and thus it is natural that her name sprang forth in a few questions. Specifically, the one asking: “What’s it like growing up as Carissa Moore’s little sister?”

To this, Cayla replied, “It’s just like having any other sibling.” Before any of her achievements, Carissa is a sister and she seems to have nailed that department. Cayla further adds, “She is my best friend and I love her a lot!” Going by these words, it appears as though the Moore sisters are two peas in a pod.

Nonetheless, when it comes to her surfing stints, Cayla mentions, “From that, I know I have my own path and I can’t wait to see where it takes me.” The sisters sure seem to be keeping their personal and professional dynamics different. But, it looks like Carissa always keeps a few words of appreciation handy for Cayla’s surfing skills.

Carissa never fails to give valuable feedback on Cayla’s surfing

Further in the interview, Cayla gets questioned on how much feedback Carissa gives her regarding her surfing. Clarifying the same, she answers, “My sister is my surf buddy. She keeps me company out in the lineup and is always encouraging me to try my hardest.” This further sheds light on the close dynamic they share.

However, Carissa’s take on Cayla’s surfing isn’t very detailed. Cayla cites, “She [Carissa] doesn’t have much input on my surfing, but she gives me feedback if she likes something I did and that’s always nice to hear. My dad has a lot of input on my surfing.” 

Apparently, Cayla also accompanied her father and Carissa Moore to Fiji. She mentions that there was no contest, ‘just surfing,’ which has given her exposure to a real surf trip.
