John John Florence is a bona fide surfing pro and his skills need no emphasis! He lifted the 2011 and 2013 Vans World Cup titles, followed by clinching the World Surf League Champion spot consecutively in 2016 and 2017. However, he isn’t the only one in the Florence family who is well-acquainted with riding the waves. Joining him in the league are the Florence siblings, who turn out, are ardent surfers themselves!
Besides sharing the same passion, the brothers enjoy a deeply rooted camaraderie, which occasionally turns into an atypical sibling rivalry when the three go head-to-head.

The Florence siblings are a trio of three brothers. Ivan Florence is the youngest of them all, while John John Florence is the eldest, and Nathan Florence is the middle child. Growing up on Oahu’s North Shore, the three have taken a gazillion surfs together, but have had their distinct trajectories.
While John John Florence traversed the competitive route in surfing, Nathan built a loyal YouTube following via his surfing videos. Some of the latter’s best performances to date include his 2019 victory at the Red Bull Cape Fear at Shipsterns and his 2018 Surfline Wave of the Winter showdown. Moreover, a seasoned surfer, his experiences range across a variety of surf lines, including Tahiti, Mexico, and others.

The quietest, but one who dons the most chic style amongst the three, 1996-born Ivan is the youngest Florence sibling. Nonetheless, having surfed at the Pipeline alongside his brothers, he has an arsenal of surfing skills that he exhibits ever so often. As per Surfer.com, the goofy-footed surfer recently departed from Vans, his former sponsor, and joined the Florence (Marine), his brother John John’s surf apparel startup.

Earlier this year, Nathan had announced that he would be going the ‘Florence’ way and had embraced his elder brother’s brand. And now, Ivan treads in his steps. While the three brothers have come together under this banner, this isn’t the only time they have joined forces. The Vans Pipe Master 2023 had witnessed the three of them entering the competitive waters together.
The trio always have a healthy rivalry between them
Paired up together in the same heat, the Florence brothers exchanged playful teases amongst themselves at the 2023 Vans Pipe Master event. Two-time world champion John John Florence fired a prediction. “The plan is that I’m gonna win, Ivan’s gonna get second and Nathan’s gonna get third,” he said, as per Surfing FN.

Instantly, Nathan chimed in with a retaliation. Tossing a reply, he questioned, “Wow, I couldn’t even get second?” He then modified the projection. Nathan remarked, “The plan is, bulldog John, me and Ivan, teaming up … he really won’t burn us if it comes down to it.”
Amidst this banter, the dynamic that the brothers share comes alive. They may seem competitors in the water, but their bond as brothers runs deep.
