Caitlin Simmers. Remember that name, because the 18-year-old is on her way to make a big splash at the 2024 Paris Olympics! In 2021, Simmers clinched a win in the US Open of Surfing. While she couldn’t replicate that in the Challenger Series that same year, she finished fourth and secured a spot in the 2022 WSL Championship Tour. And she did all of this at just 15! However, in 2022, the young wunderkind opted out of the tour to hone her surfing skills further with her family by her side. But she decided to make a comeback in the 2022 Challenger Series, pushing her through to yet another Championship tour, this time in 2023!

In the finals of the Boost Mobile Gold Coast Pro in Australia, Simmers went on to clinch her first victory of 2022. The next year, she continued making waves by consistently staying on the top of the table. With a first place at the VIVO Rio Pro and MEO Rip Curl Portugal Pro, she let the world know she’s a force to be reckoned with! She even won the 2023 Rookie of the Year Award. She started this season with a bang by winning the 2024 Lexus Pipe Pro! As she prepares to surf to her heart’s content at the French capital, many fans want to know more about her family. Everything you need to know about the surfing prodigy’s family

Caitlin Simmers hails from Oceanside, California and has been around the sport practically her whole life. Growing up near the coast played a huge part in her igniting her love for surfing. The wunderkind has previously mentioned how her parents loved the beach and would always take both her and Timo to spend all day down there. They initially used to boogie board, but eventually grew found of surfing. This didn’t come as a surprise, though!

Her parents, Jesse and Ali Simmers, used to be surfers themselves. Knowing their way around the waves, they encouraged Caitlin to dip her toes in the ocean too. Caitlin mastered the board, and entered her first ever competition at just 10-years-old. Her younger brother, Timo seems to have followed that same path. 

While Caitlin Simmers dominates the waves, she’s not too bad on a skateboard either! The waves can often have a mind of their own. So when she can’t find solace in the ocean, she goes to a local skatepark called Prince Park with her friends and Timo. She loves it so much so, she often carries it along whenever she travels. She believes it helps her surf better, since the movements are pretty similar. So if you find her skating on any of her adventures, don’t be too surprised!

The surfing prodigy wears several hats, she is also is incredibly fond of editing. In 2021, Simmers along with a few future stars of surfing filmed footage during their travels in Mexico, Indonesia, France, and Portugal. While she intended on handing over the footage to someone else, inspired by a song, she ended up editing one part of it all by herself. Her film Toasted is a product of one of her goals – to make a generation-defining film that will then inspire people to surf.

Caitlin and Timo Simmers are certified surf pals

Caitlin may be a surfing prodigy in the making. But her younger brother, Timo Simmers, isn’t too far behind! Just like his big sister, Timo has had his fair share of riding waves as often as he can. The siblings often go on several trips with their parents, and find some time in between to take a trip to a local beach and spend most of their day there. Most of their adventures have made an appearance on Caitlin’s Instagram grid.

Timo made an appearance in a video posted by Simmers in 2021. With a catchy song playing in the back, the video has several snippets of the siblings effortlessly weaving through the waves, laughing, smiling, and just living their best life! Apart from his sister, Timo has something else that he loves just as much – his 2005 Toyota Corolla! The siblings share another similarity apart from surfing. Timo also is a master of editing and often edits some of his own videos.

Despite being a self proclaimed introvert, Timo continues to make several appearances in most of Caitlin’s pictures on her social media. It’s endearing to watch the both of them share such a tight-knit bond with each other and their parents. As the Paris Olympics inch closer, Caitlin Simmers’ summer is about to get far more eventful.
