Sophia Culhane, a young surfer hailing from the shores of Hawaii, is making waves in the surfing world. At the age of just eight, Culhane began her competitive journey, dabbling in both short-boarding and longboarding. She officially entered the WSL Longboarding Tour in 2020, and at the age of 16, she had her breakthrough year. Her goal is to break the record held by Rachael Tilly, who became the youngest world champion at the age of 17 in 2015. Now in 2023, The World Surf League (WSL) Longboard Tour is unfolding in an epic showdown.

On the third stop of the tour, the surfing community gathered for the Surf City El Salvador Longboard Classic, presented by Corona. Hawaii’s Culhane, the youngest competitor on the Longboard Tour, showcased her impeccable skills. She faced her formidable competitor, Kelis Kaleopa’a, who was a fellow Waikiki standout, in an exciting battle at El Sunzal for the finals and claimed victory. The win for Culhane stood out amongst enthusiasts, and soon it ignited a frenzy of admiration and awe for her in the wave-riding community.
