He posted a video to Instagram showing him teaching an eager student how to navigate the powerful waves that surfaced. While no serious injuries were thankfully sustained, the incident served as a valuable safety lesson for both the instructor and the student.

Reflecting on the moment, Brett remarked, “When you’re teaching kids to surf bigger waves, never assume they won’t send it on the sets!” The unexpected encounter reminded him of the importance of staying alert and maintaining a keen sense of situational awareness.

With a touch of self-inflicted humor, Brett admitted his oversight and took the foam board to the head in stride. He penned in the caption, “Great learning moment for myself… Tried to sneak a bigger set, didn’t expect one of the kids to try and go, let my guard down, and copped a soft top to the dome. Haha No harm done though”. The caption showed that even though he has so much experience he was willing to learn for it and also poke fun at himself.
