The surfing world has a sensational new hotspot in Kelly Slater’s exclusive surf ranch. Many celebrities, including Shaun White and his girlfriend, Nina Dobrev, have taken on the barreling challenge at the ranch. Now, a Dog Surfing Champion and Shredder of the Year Award Winner have joined the ranks of these celebrities and surpassed them with a showcase of superior skills.

Skyler the dog, is not a novice on the surfboard. Starting from the very fledging pup days, this sensational dog has shown a natural talent for riding the waves. Over the first fifteen years of her life, Skyler has honed her skills and become a maestro on the surfboard. Last month, the champion took retirement from surfing competitions in a teary-eyed farewell from fans. However, in a recent social media update, Skyler showed that she had many more rides left in her.

Skyler the surfing dog, gets barreled at Kelly Slater’s surf ranch

Yesterday, the canine surfing champion’s PR team posted heartwarming footage on social media from Skyler’s escapade to Kelly Slater’s surf ranch. Skyler and her owner, Homer Henard, were riding the waves and even braved a huge barrel. The post on Instagram was captioned, “Skyler the Surfing dog gets pitted!” The picture on Instagram showed Skyler and Henard getting barreled in the million-dollar wave pool with the words “First Dog To Get Barreled In History @skylerthesurfingdog”. But as it turned out, the surfing adventure carried on till late at night.

The Instagram post also featured a video upload captured during the night. While surfing in the open ocean after nightfall can be dangerous, the multi-million dollar wave pool is well-lit throughout the night. Henard and Skyler carried on their surfing shenanigans on the longboard to her heart’s desire.

Henard made sure that his beloved pet was safe and put a specially designed red life vest on her. The little daredevil that she is, Skyler does not mind getting her fur wet. Skyler’s bond with Henard was on full showcase and reminded everyone of her enterprising role in the medical field.

Skyler’s legacy transcends surfing

Skyler is famous for winning the World Dog Surfing Championships, but her achievements cannot be counted on medals alone. She is also an excellent therapy dog and has brought comfort to children suffering from disabilities. She has also worked with injured veterans and sparked new hope for life in them. Skyler has also helped Henard a couple of times when he was feeling down. On the whole, she is a perfect example of the positive impact a furry friend can make in someone’s life.
