Italo’s humble surfing background and career journey

Growing up in Brazil, Italo, a fisherman’s son, did not have any access to a surfboard. It was actually one of Italo’s cousin who was more than happy to give his surfboard to the now Olympic gold winner. Back in 2019, in the final round of the World Surf League, Italo defeated fellow Brazilian Gabriel Medina at the Pipe Masters event and became the 2019 WSL champion. Even during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics surfing final, Italo Ferreira ended up breaking his surfboard in the first few minutes. But very graciously and without panicking, the Brazilian took a new board and ended up winning a gold medal in his Olympics debut.
