Since this feat is something that certain humans thrice his size would struggle to achieve, it is really commendable that the 13-year-old, who has also taken part in NSSA National Championships, was able to execute it so effortlessly. In the video, as Carbone stood up on his board ready to catch a wave, a perfect little barrel broke out. Without missing a beat, the young surfer took off on his surfboard and went behind the curtain of water, and then came out on the other end, thus checking off all the points for successfully riding a tube. When it comes to barrel waves, timing is everything.

Being a skilled surfer is not enough, judgment of the water and when to drop into the barrel is something one needs to master. Having confidence in one’s skills and a competitive mindset is what will ensure that the surfer will fight their way out of the tube. A barrel requires a proper bottom turn and a good pop-up, all the while having steely control of one’s speed. It is astonishing that Carbone has vanquished these skills at such a young age, something that his followers were equally impressed with.
