One of the dominant pipe surfers of his era, John John Florence gave a spectacular performance at the Hurley Pro Sunset Beach 2023 on 14 February. The two-time World Champion made his debut in the championship performing at the Opening Round battle against Joao Chianca and Australia’s powerful Jackson Baker. More so, surfing fans were impressed with Florence’s performance at WSL’s latest challenges.
Hurley Pro Sunset Beach is one of the most loved international surfing championships under the WSL. The championship dates from 12 February to 23 February in Hawaii. Not only young surfers like Florence, the event also had the gracious participation of legendary surfers Kelly Slater, Miguel Pupo, Maxime Huscenot, and many others.

On Tuesday, 30-year-old Florence roared at the surfing challenge. Twisting and turning on the waves, Florence achieved the highest Heat total of the day.
Although many fans were happy with the young surfer’s performance, many complained about his scores. Take a look;

Florence’s ultimate scores in the battle were 8.33 and 7.50. However, fans felt that the scores were not appropriate, in comparison to his excellent performance;
“8.0-8.5 are crappy scores for how well he read that wave. John John should have had 10s.”
Moreover, another fan was curious about the surfer’s superpower;

Moreover, after his performance, Florence expressed that although he was happy with the experience, he felt a bit sad as he did not get enough waves while surfing.
Fans appreciate legend Kelly Slater for his first heat win since 2019
A neck-to-neck performance took place between Kelly Slater, Miguel Pupo, and Maxime Huscenot. However, the results were in favor of the 11-time World Champion scoring 9.70. This was Slater’s first heat win since the 2019 World Championship.
