The Aussie surfer was casually sitting on his surfboard when he felt something hit his face unexpectedly. Steve’s first thought was that his friends were messing with him with probably seaweed. However, the surfer was clueless about what had just hit him. The Aussie was confused, and the coach was the first one to notice the attack.

What transpired was that a garfish leaped out of the water and pierced the cartilage of the surfer’s nose, leaving him in utter disbelief. The beak of the garfish lodged in the surfer’s nose while the rest of the fish’s body snapped off.

His friends reacted quickly and took him back to the resort in a speedboat. However, with no hospital in sight near the resort, one of the surfer who was a doctor from Australia, Kyle Kophamel, made a temporary operation theatre within the resort, and removed all fish fragments within an hour. After his successful operation, Steve Kazic told the Daily Mail, “It felt like one of those up-to-the-gods chance events, [Dr Kophamel] said the spot where I was pierced was only half an inch away from losing my eyesight.”?The Aussie was lucky enough to walk away with only 3 stitches and his wound does not show any signs of infection.
