On Monday, May 22, Lynn Maisch passed away due to an unknown illness. The Facebook page paid its tribute through a note that read, “She will be sorely missed, and thank you for all you did for surfing, Lynn. Our deepest condolences go out to the Maisch family during this difficult time. RIP Lynn.”

She was a prominent figure in the revolutionary Gunston 500, an iconic surfing championship that started in 1969. Being a chief contributor in that contest, Maisch also helped in paving the way for facilitating the South African community and female surfers to start surfing.

Last year, Lynn was awarded a lifetime achievement award by the South African Masters Surfing Championship, for her relentless contribution to the field for 40 years. Needless to say, she was also an honorable member of the South African surfing community.

Lynn’s dedication and passion for the sport shall be missed forever. She has a huge family behind her that includes her children, nieces, and grandchildren, who will continue to cherish her memories.
