Magnolia was on vacation in Cocoa Beach, Florida, when the attack took place. The young teen was swimming in waist-deep water just south of the pier of Cocoa Beach. The family was in Florida for a gymnastic competition that Magnolia was participating in. The preteen’s first thought after the attack was, “I’m not going to do gymnastics.” She revealed in an interview with CBS News. A day before the competition, Magnolia accompanied her family for a fun day out on the beach.
She entered the water excitedly, but to her surprise, a shark suddenly swam up and started biting her leg. Although Magnolia could not see the shark, she touched its body in an attempt to fight it off. The brave girl began running towards the shore as soon as the shark let go of her. Melissa Stallings, Magnolia’s mother, spoke to CBS News and recounted the moment of horror, saying, “I hear Magnolia screaming at the top of her lungs. Never heard her scream so loud before in my life”.
She had over 75 bitemarks on her leg and was dropping copious amounts of blood. Her parents rushed her to the hospital, and Magnolia got fifty stitches to patch up the wounds. She did not let this attack limit her to bed; instead, she remained determined to make the most of her time in Florida.
