Is Carissa Moore's decision to risk pregnancy for the Olympics a bold move or a reckless gamble?

“I couldn’t have imagined a better place to finish off my career…” voiced an emotional Carissa Moore at Tahiti as her Paris Olympic run came to an unexpected end. Hoping to defend her Olympic title in Paris, the Hawaiian had faced a disappointing finish, as she got edged out of the quarterfinals, while Johanne Defay cruised ahead. Nonetheless, she is now in Maldives, in attendance for the ‘world’s most luxurious surfing event.’

Evidently, it has been a hectic schedule for Moore. However, it’s bound to be a memorable one as the surfer embraces some major changes in her life. Currently 15 weeks pregnant, Moore is expecting her first child soon. While transitioning to motherhood, she did not shy away from making a few confessions.

Speaking to Surfer between rounds as she reached the Maldives for the Four Seasons Maldives 2024 Surfing Champions Trophy event, Moore disclosed her thoughts during her pregnancy. She admits, “It’s been so interesting, just like the mindset as you get more pregnant…,” suggesting that she has undergone significant changes.

But, it looks more of a mixed bag. Moore confesses, “Just the apprehension that, like in those ways I think I would feel like, oh totally like obviously a little bit of butterflies but totally fine…” While she was mostly fine, she hints at there being a sense of nervousness in her mind. “But like where I’m kind of almost second guessing some of my decisions because things are slower and I don’t feel as like connected as you know I have in the past,” she continued.

Her words suggest there may have been some back and forth regarding her decision to continue surfing during her pregnancy, as she admits to rethinking some of her choices. However, at the end of the day, the surfer remains committed to adapting to these changes positively. She said, “So, it’s been like a little bit of a change and I’m trying to embrace it as much as I can.”

But, when and how did all this begin? Well, Moore recently announced that she is expecting her firstborn, which had her fans flooding the comments to congratulate her. But, it looks like the surfer went ahead with the competition in Paris despite her big news.

Taking to her Instagram on August 22, Carissa Moore announced absolute surf-style, “Excited to catch the best wave of our lives…the swell arrives February 2025 💛 Adding a short video clip with her husband, the surfer even flaunted her baby bump as Ellie Goulding’s cover of ‘Your Song’ played in the background. However, as one looks at the month she is due, it is observable that Moore competed at the Olympics in her first trimester.

Well, the Tokyo Olympic gold medalist herself seems to confirm the same. As one of the fans comments on her announcement post, “Did you compete at the Olympics in the middle of your first trimester?! You deserve a medal for that alone!” To which Moore responded with a fist bump emoji and a smiling face with hearts.
