Surfing might be one of the ‘coolest’ and most fun sports, but catching a surf is not an easy task at all. With hardcore training and practice, science also plays a certain role in helping a surfer understand how to balance themselves on the surfboard while riding a wave. However, a particular surfer seems to have gone against physics, actually ‘facing the wave’.
In one of their recent tweets, famous Twitter user @Rainmaker1973 shared a unique surfing video on the social media platform. The video has not only left the fans speechless but also, inspired them to try the new move.

Georgia based surfer, Austin Keen, is seen riding the waves, in a manner, that is opposite of what most surfers do. In the caption, the user wrote, “It’s the opposite of what you have to do to catch a wave while surfing, but if you have enough kinetic energy, you can face a wave to get even more and fly”

While surfing usually involves riding with the waves, Keen instead started right from the shore and headed straight for the wave. As soon as the surfer successfully caught it, he rose almost more than five feet above the ground level, and swiftly caught his board mid-air. Although there are several videos where people have tried to attempt this move, Keen seems to have done it way more swiftly than the others.
Hence, many surfing fans were impressed by the World Skimboarding Champion’s superhero move. They flooded @Rainmaker1073’s comment section with appreciation.
The surfing world goes insane after watching the video
Most people were absolutely amazed by Austin Keen’s surfing ability and commented:

No greater feeling of one with Nature than landing a board flat on to water from 10ft.

While a few others shared their scientific knowledge and some deep words:
Looks like the key to riding the wave of life is to face it head-on with plenty of kinetic energy. #surfing #motivation

But consider falling down in water that 12” deep. Ouch.

Although this is not an official surfing move, many people still looked forward to trying it out themselves. Maybe soon, ‘riding with the waves’ will be replaced with ‘facing the waves’. And while several other surfers are trying to bring some new innovations in surfing, Keen has successfully begun a new trend.
