The surfing world has gone topsy-turvy and it has nothing to do with wave-riding antics. In its stead, it is the gut-wrenching feeling of separation that has caused the surf fanatics to bemoan a great loss. Olympic shortboard champion Carissa Moore’s retirement announcement is at the center of this widespread deploration. The announcement was no less than a seismic shock in the surfing community especially in the wake of her Paris Olympics 2024 qualification.
The Hawaiian gained an opportunity to defend her crown at the Tahiti Pro occasion of the World Surf League Championship Tour season. However, she has declared that the Paris Olympics 2024 will be her penultimate contention at the mega event. Amidst the clamoring evoked by her pronouncement, Kai Lenny has joined a wave of surfing maestros to bid her a worthy farewell.

Carissa Moore will be carrying away wonderful memories of her triumphs on the surfboard. However, she expects her forays “outside the jersey” will be equally epic and is thrilled to welcome the new chapter of her life.
In a heartwarming narrative in the captions of an IG post, Moore summed up all her emotions by saying, “Surfing is a part of who I am, and it always will be. This is by no means the end. I’d like to think of this instead as an evolution, the start of the next chapter, a new beginning”.
Kai Lenny was the first to join the emphatic bandwagon on the comment section with proclamations of an unknown dimension in their relationship. He wrote, “You’re incredible Riss You’ve been inspiring me since we were kids. This is only the beginning, I can’t wait to see what you do next 🙌 Forever the Queen.”

A resounding ode to surfing royalty
As the recipient of the 2023 Stab Surfer of the Year award, Nathan Florence enjoyed unfathomable success last season. However, his most joyous moment was when his brother John John Florence and Carissa Moore captured their Olympic berths respectively. Now, he floated a sentimental message for Moore, saying, “Such a champion always will be!”. His estimation is justified by a Smithsonian record that has erected a forever throne for Carissa Moore.
