Fortunately, legendary surf photographer Ryan “Chachi” Craig has put together a list of 10 of the most perfect waves in the world.

From picturesque locations around the globe, Chachi’s lens has immortalized some of the most breathtaking waves imaginable. The iconic photographer’s list captures dreamlike setups that will captivate every surfer’s imagination.

Craig starts his bucket list with Mexico. With endless possibilities for perfect waves, Mexico is a surfer’s paradise. Craig highlights the right sand and swell conditions that can be often found while surfing here. Next up on his list was Tahiti, which is home to some of the most iconic waves in the world, including Teahupo’o. These waves are known for their power and their steepness, and they’re not for the faint of heart. According to a Surfer report, complementing Tahiti for her photogenic angles, Craig said, “The drone angle before drones existed.” Third on the list is Ireland. The wave here earns its reputation as one of the planet’s heaviest, showcasing its immense power and raw beauty. Craig claims the stunning late afternoon light transforms Ireland’s coastline into a mesmerizing spectacle for surf enthusiasts if the sun does come out.

Next on the list is Lennox Head, Australia. This is a world-renowned point break that’s known for its long, peeling waves. It is nature’s amphitheater that sets the stage for an unforgettable surf experience. Costa Rica is fifth. The waves here are perfect for those who are looking for a combination of beauty and power. It is a treasure trove of shallow slabs that require specific conditions to come alive. Next up is Puerto Rico. Where a fading swell becomes an opportunity for surfers to make the most of the day. Speaking about the swell, Craig said, I think we had a 3-hour window before the swell all but disappeared.” The stunning and secluded Solomon Islands, which provide a backdrop for an unforgettable surf adventure, was seventh on the list. Home to some of the most pristine waves in the world.

 

Eighth on the list is Desert Point. Craig’s experiences at this iconic wave revealed the challenges surfers face, with swells depending on wind conditions and tide swings. Next up was Bali. Beyond the world-famous surf breaks, Bali hides secret waves waiting to be discovered. According to Craig, “Not everything in Bali is based around surfing.” The tenth on the list is New York. Craig’s misconceptions about the East Coast were debunked when he finally visited Long Island during a hurricane. That made him realize the region’s surf potential. Apart from the ten waves, Craig does have a few more suggestions for his surfing tribe.

The legendary photographer also mentions the beauty and intensity of Shipstern Bluff in Australia. He mentions about the ton of waves a surfer can find in South Africa. And a particular point in Cape Town, which often sees a double black diamond type of wave. Craig also adds Lagundri Bay and Nias in Indonesia to his list. Apart from that, New Zealand and Bocas in Panama also make to the list.
